Is PS2 Save Builder safe to use?

We’ve been the home for Ps2 Save Builder for over 12 years and recently we’ve been made aware that some antivirus scanners are detecting Ps2 Save Builder as being dangerous or containing a virus.

The great folks over at Trend Micro took a deeper look at what was causing this and I’m happy to confirm that if you’ve downloaded Ps2 Save Builder from this site then it is safe to use.
The executable file utilises a technique called ‘packing’, viruses use this to disguise their true nature, and this is setting off a few AV products causing them to detect it as malicious.

Use the SHA256 hashes below to ensure you have a safe version of PS2 Save Builder:

  • Ps2_Save_Builder_0.8x.zip: bb4c39e392284e31bbbb89d610605b254a77724922353980829ba9a463a44768
  • ps2save-builder.exe: 2b4a12a28309d51d6ba30d420792a41ae2de0c7a758e5d2249deae4a5959793a
  • PropTree.dll: 87fcd461891664d7f2786eb8bed0d988e8a7a1f7b4caabb3a29b8a6fc66c767b

[how to check SHA256]

If you downloaded PS2 Save Builder from any other site make sure you confirm that the hashes match exactly, if you have any doubt download again from here. If the hashes match exactly and your AV program still detects the files as dangerous please follow the products procedures for submitting a false positive result.

Ever the perfectionist Vector spotted a UI bug in the last build of PS2 Save Builder and promptly sent over a fixed version to which I’ve appended an x to the file version.

Lastest PS2 Save Builder with Ar max support is OUT!

Finally I’m back(!) and with me I bring the long awaited PS2 save Builder v0.7 featuring full AR Max support!
This isn’t some potentially stolen(!) Datel tool with limited functuality (which I was suprised to find on one website), rather it’s an improvement to a long established tool with a proven track record.

I’ve not been able to get in touch with vector so this release is made with the condition that he can ask for it to be removed at any time.
Please respect the author and not host this file anywhere else, instead link to the downloads section of PS2 Save tools, it’s free and I intend to keep it that way 🙂

Grab it while it’s hot!: PS2 Save builder v0.7 BUILD 008

Many thanks to those who were supportive and made donations to keep the site running in my absence, your generosity is much appreciated 🙂

Where is the PS2 save Builder update?

Many of you have been asking where the new version of PS2 save Builder is?

well, I can reveal that an update was being worked on, with full .max support. That’s right, you can load and save Datel’s new Max save format. However, various politics in the scene delayed this release and it’s now unknown if this much anticipated release will see the light of day

More information, and hopefully a release, will be forthcoming….

PS2 Save Builder, the all purpose tool for PS2 Saves

PS2 Save Builder is a swiss army knife for your saves, features include extracting files, add new ones, alter all the various text fields (inc. Xport text areas), build new saves from the ground up and more!

When I backed up my save and restored it later it has a different icon?

The Xport and SharkPort V2 software now saves the icon with the file (thus allowing it to restore saves without needing an existing save) but..
It doesn’t store the games icon, rather it replaces every icon in the save (saves contain up to three icons) with it’s own. Using PS2 Save Builder you can now inject the correct (or even a more interesting) icon back into the save. Icons are found either on the disc in case of GTA: VC (a rare occurrence though) or can be extracted from other saves. Please note that some .psu/.psd saves are a backup of an Xport save and may possably contain the incorrect icon. If so, search again for another version of the save.

patch is available for the Xport software, applying it stops the software from injecting it’s own icon and leaves the original icon intact
