Banner ad and important news

We don’t normally run banner ads but this is something I thought was worth advertising…

In February 2002, the European Commission proposed a directive that would legalise software patents. However, the European Parliament decided in its Plenary Vote of 24th September 2003 to fix all the loopholes in this proposal and explicitly banned software patents.

Currently, the European Council of Ministers is discussing this directive. Their internal working party proposes to simply discard all clarifying amendments from the Parliament. They want to make everything patentable.

That is not an option Europe is willing to accept. We showed them this on 27 August 2003. We will show them again on 14 April 2004.

In protest we are running the banner ads and will be closed on the 14th of April 2004 for the entire day, if you wish to know more or participate in this protest please visit http://demo.ffii.org

icon.sys format and .xps file breakdowns

Included in the nPort source release were Losers notes covering two of the files found within a PS2 save as well as a breakdown of the Xport save formats.

I’ve quickly converted the icon.sys and Xport V2 save format documents to html and added them to the documents section, I’ll add the remaining two documents soon.

A quick hello and some new downloads…

I’ll be looking after this site while gothi feels unable to devote his full attention and abilities to it, I promise to look after it *g*

What better way to say hello than to bring some new downloads with me, first up we have the full source to nPort, generously released by Wire of Napalm

Hiryu of SNES-Station fame has released a handy icon.sys generator, it lacks the graphical finese of PS2 Save Builders inbuilt tool but does the job just as well

Site handover

Due to a conflict of interests I will no longer be the main contributer to this site and will be relinquishing control of it to a friend.

I will still keep my @www.ps2savetools.com email address as it is my primary email address and will still answer questions on existing software I have written etc, however any further software from myself will support only .xps and possably .xpo
Obviously if this changes then updates will be issued etc etc 🙂

I will continue to maintain any tools that require it and offer what support I can but general questions and more will be answered by Retinal, the new custodian of the site.
He has his own @ps2savetool.com email address and will be tending the site in my forseeable absence 🙂

Please note, I am no longer liable or responcible for any software, news or information posted on this site, my responcibility ends at what I have done so far 🙂
Don’t worry about site updates etc, they’ll be just as regular 🙂

Thanks for all your support guys.. Xianaix, Guichi, Vector, Sjeep and whoever else that I have forgotten at this late hour who have helped me get this far 🙂

Save Slicer source

I’ve been meaning to release this for about a week now but ISP issues prevented me from accessing this site.

This is the slightly modified source for Save Slicer 1.3, as I now no longer maintain this program I am releasing this source in the hopes it might help more people write software to do interesting and cool stuff with game saves.
The source has been stripped and cleaned, I removed the .npo and .psu support purely because it was ugly and would have confused people trying to figure out what is going on. I have tried to document exactly what is happening in the various sections, some of it might appear condescending, but I’d rather be clear than receive 100 emails asking why something is been done with a certain value.

If you find the source useful or create a program based upon it, please drop me a line 🙂

You can grab it here, the code is old but usuable, some sections (such as the error trapping on saving a slice) aren’t complete and it’s sometimes not the most efficient code (remember, this was work in progress) but should be more than enough to allow you to see how to work with Xport v2 saves
