PS2 Independence: Run Code On An Unmodded PS2

Whilst I was on holiday a useful and interesting exploit was found by mrbrown allowing users to load software from the memory card.

You can read more information and discussion on this discovery here

I intend creating a few tools to make things easier for users to insert Product ID’s and different software into the Xport save (which I will hopefully have for download soon) although nPort users are already catered for by mrbrowns own software and npo-x.exe

Use the site? Want to lose it?

Checking on the current stats of PS2 Save Tools it’s extremely obvious that the tools and support we offer are used frequently by a lot of people.

However…..

What is even more obvious is that we are running extremely short of disc space and especially bandwidth.

We would love to keep the site free and even finish some of the projects (new versions of Save Slicer, PS2SIDC, including full nPort support in all programs etc) but at this rate the site may have to follow Gamesaves.de recent departure…

This is the last thing we want to happen, nowhere else on the web is there such a collection of tools and information about and for PS2 saves, we are a unique resource

If you can spare a small amount to keep this site running then please do so, donating is as easy as pressing the Make a Donation button at the top left

Gamesaves.de closes it’s doors

In some sad news, Gamesaves.de, a great resource for PAL gamesaves on several formats is closing it’s doors.

Quote from Gamesaves.de:

Gamesaves.de will go offline in the next days/weeks, and won`t come back again.

About the reasons: Gamesaves was a project that I`ve made just for fun .
but now it isn`t any longer fun for me, that`s why I can`t see any reason why I should invest more time and money for it.

For now I wanna say thanks to all our User, who did help to let become Gamesaves such a big projext. And I wish you much fun with playing your favorite games.

File Compare program and guide

EMS, makers of the PS2 Memory Adapter have started their own guide to save hacking, whilst it mainly focuses on Gamecube saves the same principles apply to PS2 Saves.

Along with the guide they have presented a simple but effective tool for save comparisons, you can use this tool on both .psu saves and .xps/.sps
Ideally with PS2 saves you should compare sliced save data leaving out excess items such as the icon, icon.sys and Xport comments.

PS2 Linux memory card directory limit patch

Following up on mrbrowns patch comes another useful patch for PS2 Linux users

The PS2 linux MCFS has a limit of 256 directories on the memory card, this patch removes said limit. It should be combined with mrbrowns full memory card access patch for maximum effect

Grab it from our downloads

PS2 Linux patches added

New to the downloads section is the patch for the PS2 Linux kit from mrbrown.

This patch allows you to view the full contents of the PS2 memory card, when applied properly you should be able to view the full contents of the memory card, not just the contents of BWLINUX/

Two patches are included, the first is for the default Linux kernel shipped with the kit and the second for the xRhino kernel found on playstation2-linux.com

What’s going on

Just a small update to let you know the status of various projects and what’s going on behind the scenes.

Save Slicer:
Beta 3 is on the cards, bug fixes include the detection and removal of non-windows characters and I might try to squeeze in full nPort conversion without the need for npo-x.exe. If I’m successfull then you know what I’m going to make next….

Save Text Editor:
No progress since last time mainly due to real life getting in the way, however the part that needs code is not a major task and a beta will be made available to members as soon as I finish it

PS2SIDC:
Until now this has been only a little more useful than using a hex editor and a damn sight slower.
I plan on totally scrapping the existing gui + code and programming a much neater, faster and advanced version that should work with 100% of saves rather than the current 99%

All projects:
nPort support will be added to all existing programs.

All downloads back online

All downloads (bar two) have been moved to this server and checked by hand.

The two downloads not hosted on this server are the US and UK Xport software, this was at the request of Datel, the download link on this site takes you directly to the Xport software download setion at Codejunkies

Downloads fixed

All downloads should be functioning now, a side issue of the old download server being wiped is that the Update Check on the older software will not function correctly, new versions will be available shortly
